The Bird of Paradise is a tropical plant in the family better known as gingers. This family includes 7 species of plants ranging from a few feet in height up to 5 metres, like for example the Traveller’s Palm.

The Bird of Paradise always makes a statement and the ultimate magnificence of a mature plant will command attention above everything around it. This would be the perfect specimen plant for the ‘wow’ factor, especially when space is at a premium.

The Bird of Paradise requires full sun or a bright spot inside, but it will tolerate lightly shaded positions if kept warm, though its flowering may be diminished. Avoid places that are too close to a window or hot radiators.
A north facing room should be avoided in the long run, as the plant can cope only for a short while with a darker position. This will slow down growth and the likelihood of flowers is very low.
During winter periods, the plant will go dormant and is best kept in rooms that don’t have high temperature fluctuations but remain above 13 degrees centigrade.
They may be kept outdoors in moderate climates and will appreciate the sunshine.

The Bird of Paradise is not too fussy as to its soil, which is evidenced by the wide variety of soils it grows in. However, a general purpose indoor plant mix is suitable with good drainage.
Flowering plants should not be disturbed from their pots. However once a year, in spring, it is recommended to top-dress the plants with fresh good quality potting mix.

Watering in the growing period should be done moderately, and it’s very important to have good drainage in the pot so that the plant doesn’t become water logged. As a good rule of thumb, it is best to leave the soil to dry out between waterings so that the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. During the rest period over winter, give just enough to prevent the soil mixture from drying out completely.

If the air is very dry, occasional misting would be helpful to help remove the dust that inevitably settles on the leaves.
An important sign that the plant is not receiving enough water is that the leaves will start curling, splitting, and turning brown.

      Shipping and Delivery

      Shippable and non-shippable products

The products we are able to ship vary, but as a guide, we generally do not send the following via post:

      • Delicate or temperamental plants or plant-containing products
      • Large or heavy products
      • Any products not meeting the criteria of what is able to be posted

Products that are able to be shipped will be packaged with protective insulation and covering in the smallest package possible. Plants will also be enclosed with damp sphagnum moss or similar to protect from dehydration and will be shipping without soil. We recommend paying for express postage for plant orders to minimise any risk of damage to the plant via post.

Shipping and delivery for orders that only include non-shippable products:

We can only facilitate delivery of non-shippable orders within the Perth metro area.

We offer local delivery to addresses within 30km of our Subiaco location. Pricing for delivery is based on distance and order value - delivery fees are reduced for orders closer to our Subiaco location and orders with higher total order values. Orders up to $120 have a delivery fee of between $10 - $20 and all orders over $120 are free.

There are three days on which we deliver orders - Tuesday and Saturday daytime and evening and Thursday evening. We will aim to deliver your order within 3 delivery days of the order being placed - please contact us if your delivery has any restrictions such as time of day someone is available to receive the order or access to the delivery point.

Orders are able to be picked up at no charge. If you have selected pick up of your order, please contact us to arrange this in advance. Pickup is at our Subiaco, WA location and can be arranged any day of the week.

Shipping and delivery for orders that only include shippable products:

All orders containing shippable products only are able to be posted and will either be posted or delivered within 3 delivery days of the order being placed. Delivery and pick up of shippable orders will be the same as for non-shippable orders, and shipping will be via tracked registered post via Australia Post or Sendle. The arrival of your order, if posted, will then be subject to the postage service delivery time.

Shipping and delivery for orders that include both shippable and non-shippable products:

Orders containing shippable and non-shippable items checked out at the same time will be treated as one order, unless we are contacted to consider them otherwise, and are only able to be delivered to addresses within the 30km radius. If the address is outside this radius, the non-shippable products will be refunded and the remaining items in the order will be processed and shipped.

      International orders

International orders are only able to be shipped if the whole order is shippable. If any items in the order are non-shippable, they will be removed and refunded, and the remainder will be shipped. We recognise that countries have varying quarantine restrictions and specific processes that may need to be adhered to relating to importing plants. We do not, however take responsibility for researching these restrictions and assume that the buyer is aware of these if they are applicable. We accept an order from another country as an indication by that buyer that the plants they have purchased are able to be shipped into that country, unless we are notified otherwise.

      Bookings

Whether you'd like to have a look at our ready-made products in person, browse the products we don't have online (including a limited range of plants and succulent bowls, both filled and unfilled), or arrange a pick up or delivery, feel free to make a booking that suits your schedule.

Appointments can be made for either our Canning Vale or Subiaco location, however availability at each varies from day to day.
